This tool will create horizontal or vertical gradient tubes. The image looks best at size 150x150. You can take your URL to image magick to resize. Best results would be to resize at half size until you are near the size you want for the height on the horizontal or the width for the vertical gradient. Then make taller or wider in the direction of the gradient.
