The raw swf on PC, you can see the fish go out of the water and off the page. In the html one you can't, they just disappear.
I'm sure the different swf's that you see on PC are done with flash 6 which we do not have the ability to use on webby. But at least we can do swf.

The other site does not go off the screen.
Remember that eukalele site you sent of Beatles songs. That uses SWFs for the chords and words. Cool.

Cool. Seems like the more I learn, the more I want to know..but I do want to understand it as I go along, so taking it one step at a time.
The circle function in Lesson 4 looks complicated. I haven't tried to work with it yet.

Have you heard of the "black screen of death"???
that is when your PC dies. Mine died on Monday. Logged on and all I got was a black screen telling me that my C drive was corrupted and I can try to get back on with the start up disk that came with the PC. So I tried that. It got me to a page that looked just like by desktop but all the links were DOA. They did nothing. It was like looking at a screenshot of my PC.
Luckily I backed up all my programs when I first got the PC. 18 disks of info. I pulled those out and loaded them into the PC. Got me back on line but with 2006 programs. Then I had to upgrade everything. Reconnect the Printer. Norton, Microsoft, etc. Now I'm back. But with still less programs. I don't think I will bother to download Mozilla though. It had too many upgrades to it. I put a shortcut to Google instead. I have to see about getting the WebTV viewer downloaded. I lost that. I still have not enabled programs yet like the Media Center, movie maker, etc. Hardly used them though.
Luckily I did not have anything that is lost forever. All the pictures I had are on my server. All the songs I had are on CDs. So if I ever buty a program I will be sure to get it on a disk.
I don't know how it got corrupted. Took me about 12 hours to get back on line. The last site I visited was Jerry's, and I know it didn't come from there. Thee was an upgrade to Mozilla and to Microsoft before I shut down on Sunday. I read where Microsoft sent out a wrong upgrade to some, but I don't know if that was it. It was the very last thing I saw on my PC before it crashed. An upgrade.
So now it is like a new Pc again. Everything that ws on it previously has been erased and replaced. Hope that don't happen again. Glad I made those disks. I almost didn't bother.
So as you can guess, I have not gotten to the Gallery. I did the Ming stuff on Sunday. Monday is also my day off, but I could not get on line.

Whatever the upgrade problem was with Microsoft it has been resolved. Your ISP? Is that your dial-up company? I have Comcast and I don't' know if there is anything they can do. Anyway it is back now. If it happens again, I think it would be time for a new PC. The upgrade that I read about was something to do with an incompatibility between Vista and XP. I have XP but one time I was sent a Vista upgrade from Hewlett Packard..to make XP compatible with Vista. So maybe I got a Vista upgrade from Microsoft that was incompatible with XP...which you may not have gotten. As far as I know the Vista thing is gone now because I did not have Vista in the beginning. I don't know if it helped at all to have it, since I use XP. The new Vista computers out now do not use XP and are not compatible with it. So they say that XP will some day become extinct.

I don't think I have a place to put a microphone with my webby. I can record from the television but I haven't done that. I'm working on some Halloween pals too. Might be finished this weekend.

That sounds easy enough. I wonder if the PC would recognize the webtv wavs. I once tried to open a wav on the pc but it did nto recognize the codec (whatever). I don't mean to play it but to edit it on the recorder. Splice two wavs together, etc.

My computer CRASHED!!!
The CD/DVD drive and the hard drive died. It would have cost me about $300 to get it fixed with no guarantees that it would work after that. Plus I'd still have to reload Windows XP on teh new hard drive. So I got another PC on eBay. Just got it up and running and so far everything looks good.
I found a zip file of the WebTV Viewer at Siggiez which I downloaded and opened on my PC. It works fine. I was wondering if I could upload the zip file to my server (since it is zipped) and offer it on my site. Inside is an Exe file.
I also downloaded a free zip/unzip program to the PC called 7-Zip. That is how I got the zip opened.

Hi Byron, I got sidetracked so haven't even thought about the Ming for a while. I'm trying to do gradangles with IM. I got the scripts for many of the angles but now I'm trying to figure out how to put it together on a form. It has been challenging. Once I finish that though, I'll get back to the Ming. Not too many lessons left on that.
Hope you get you server up soon.

I have not been feeling all that well these past couple of weeks. Been getting a lot of blood tests. Something is wrong with my red blood cells (too large). The thing is if you pass one series of blood tests you have to go for another. I'm not anemic, I don't have B12 deficiency, don't have thyroid problems, don't have immunological problems, don't have folic acid deficiency, and can't recall what else. But still have someting's wrong with my blood. I have to go for a bone marrow biopsy tomorrow, so no telling how I will feel this week.
I've been working on the gradangles at IM when I've been on line. Trying to get that going. It may be doable with one image at a time but better than nothing. I gave up on the loops. That may be why the server is crashing. Anyway today I am working a couple of hours overtime. I have not been in the groups much. My eyes just seem to glaze over. So I go into my server and isolate myself... Won't know anything though for another 10 days or more after the biopsy and don't know where to go from there.

Oh, my sig is back. I did glance in the groups but did not post. Funny to see them talking about you, both in Joe's and in PHP. Anyway hopefully tomorrow won't be too bad but it is a little unnerving. Leukemia does run in my family. I have a tai chi class tomorrow too, but don't know if I'll make it to that. I'm going to go work on the IM grads and escape for a while...8-)
inda fasciano

Well, that's over with. She did numb the area but they cannot numb the bone so you do feel that. Not too bad right now. I did not go to my tai chi class though. I just wanted to come home. I should know the results by Friday. She said that it could turn out that I was born with large blood cells, and they only need to keep an eye on it to see if it changes.
The gradangles at IM are slowly coming together. I figured I should just do what I know for now and if I figure out something better in the future I can add to it. I'm not going to do all the angles, just the ones most often used, and maybe throw in a few that we don't have with html. It can get confusing though trying to figure out how to manipulate the numbers to get the angle I want. But once I got it, on the form you just type the angle number and size and color to get it. Maybe Mike will improve on it, though I don't know if he has distort perspective on his server, as that is what I am using. At least I don't think Mike has figured out how to use that with IMagick. I tried but it did not work.

Nevermind the distort perspective. I just went to IM to check out what other angles where there and found something new....gradangles like ours!! And they are much easier. Now I can cut my codes in half. Though I did learn a lot while playing with them, I did wonder if there may be some snags with angles at different sizes. Check out this simple code.
$OUT="BW180.gif";
exec ("/usr/bin/convert -size 50x50 gradient:black-white -distort SRT 180 $OUT");
print "";
print "Click Below To Get Image & URL
";
print "
";
print "
";
?>
Change the 180 to another angle...change the colors,,,kewl

gangbusters is right. Just change one number. Just the form takes a little thinking. I wonder if people in Joe's group have IM. They may be interested in angles. You probably did not know there were choices on that script as it seems to me it was not there before today. I went over pages I looked at just last week...unless I didn't see it last week...but no there's an angle there I did not see last week.

That was 400, but the angles repeat after 360 so it is just a repeat of 40. I may explore more stuff later, but for now I think I will just stick to these angles that we are accustomed to. You can use a +distort instead of -distort for a higher quality but we don't need that. You can add other numbers for different rotations but all in all they may resemble other angles... -distort '10' 200 will change it some as it rotates around a center of 10 instead of whatever the center is, but could end up looking like one of the other angles. I suppose that is good for distorting an actual image.

Byron's server crashed about a month ago, so we have put the ming on hold until they get it back up. I guess it is back but keeps crashing and they don't know why. But I did the IM gradients tute and now working on the gradangles tute. So the Ming is still in the works for after that. Byron did tell me to go ahead if I wanted to. There are only a few lessons left on movement. I may dive into that after the holidays and get ready for next year. Maybe I can get some animated gradpals together, now that I can make parts at IM.

Those are cool swf's. You might to make parts of tables now with the transparency and use in css. That was the only downside of the html tables was trying to put stuff over stuff with that black backgroud showing.

No it is 140, I just reversed the colors. If people do have IM on their sites, it might spark an interest in gradtables again because it would be easier to make the table first in html and then use that as a guide for the images. I think they are a little different though than html. I think the positives and negatives are the opposite from what I recall. -90 would be 90, etc at IM. But this is off the top of my head. I should check that and maybe add a blurb to the tute for those who do do gradtables.

I did that at IM with the angles...command line, all one script. The only thing I made outside the script was the gradcircle for the face...and then added it to the script. I know we can use fonts or draw on them too with command line, but I just wanted to make one as if it were a gradtable using only angles. Some day when webbie is gone, they may wish they learned the other stuff...or else it is a dying art and we will be the only ones left. You might have to call the old tablers who are now on PC to come back and do them at IM.
Anyway I'm trying to get a tute together on how to put the angles together on a page, in a script. The script is easier than the forms.

I don't know what version of IMagick either, but this shows the IMagick functions.
http://www.lingolinda.com/2008/IMK/Functions/ListIMK.php
It has distortimage on it and the other things like arc in the manual come under distortimage as an option of use.
There is supposed to be a way to make gradcircles on the new version of IM. I will have to check it out.

Oh well, we will have to stick to command line then. IMagick has some advantages over command line such as being able to do a lot of stuff to an image before it get output to the server...but I don't know how to use it. Also at IM they say that it is faster than command line.

Does Dave have any distorts on his site. He said he uses Perl...or at least learned Perl first.
But some of the Imagick scripts remind me of Perl, though I don't know how alike they really are. I did search the web for a perl distort but could not find any.

That page did not reload by itself. I can have both wenby and PC on at the same time. I can even be in my FM with both at the same time. My Pc is hooked up through Comcast and the webby of course through the phone. I can't have my PC and my work PC on at once though because I only have the one Comcast connection that I plug and unplug between the two PCs. I can get into my e-mail and my FM with my work Pc though. But I don't have the webTV viewer on the work PC.
The guy in the forum wanted to put an animated type of banner on his web page which is why they said it would interfere with links, scrolling etc, because the whole page would refresh and not just the banner.

Hi Josh,
Good to hear from you...those grads are fun to do. I am getting ready for the day that we can no longer do gradtables on webTV and have to go PC 100%. I did not know about the space at IM. I will have to look into that. I am on a mailing list already. Found those gradients by serendipity...looking for something else. Grabbed all I could get. I just finished this one last night.
http://www.lingolinda.com/2008/scripts/IM/gradangles/JackInBox.php
It is a comparison of a gradtable that I had done several months ago. Shows the IM codes in large size (easier to work with when creating) and then resized half size along with the html version in the lower left corner. Here is the text for your study. On this one I made it in pieces and then put all the pieces together.
http://www.lingolinda.com/2008/scripts/IM/gradangles/JackInBox.txt
The added benefit of the IM gradients is that we can rotate and resize or even add an effect without any concern of table constraints. Can also add a frame/border that acts like cellspacing and cellpadding. So it is fairly easy to convert a html gradtable to an IM image now without having to do a screenshot.
Supposedly you can also do gradcircles using a -radial command line but I have not gotten to that yet as most people on the web do not have the latest version of IM as we do...and the fx codes will work with the older versions of IM. Got those directly from the IM pages...I could never write those.
Mike is posting in the php group and trying to learn SQL which I have no interest in. He is also showing all the hack attempts made on his Dance Away site. He has done a lot with IMagick and PHP but there is little documentation on how to use that and also some of the codes just don't seem to work at all...like the perspective stuff. I find command line easier to use though they say Imagick is faster and you can do more with an image before you have to output it to a directory than on command line but there is little documentation on how to do that. It is something like perl. I have many examples if you are interested...I got them from Mike. He's been reading my pages and trying to write them in IMagick.
You are one of the gradient pioneers around here. Maybe you will come up with some use for these no one else thought of.

I would like to see Linda rub brain cells with some of the other Image
Magick minds. For several reasons. Her own enjoyment. The opportunity to
learn more and to brain storm with others in the IM brainy sector. Being
a woman and a woman starting her scripting with Webtv would be good
stuff for her and for the community. Putting up some of her stuff on
the IM free server might be a way for her work to be seen by those
circles of people. It was just a thought.
I think Linda needs to hear how far she has advanced and how proud we
are of her. ;)
I also loved her image of a grad farmer. Great stuff!

That gradFarmer is actually one of Sally's. We had put screenshots of stuff together on a page. At first we did say which was mine and which was Sally's but there seemed to be little interest in the codes so we just starting putting the rest altogher on a page with no codes.
I have written to IM and got a response. Most of them say they are not familiar with PHP as they use C or perl but I managed to get what I was looking for...and that was before I found the codes I used in the tute. Those codes do however work with IMagick so it was not wasted. I posted them in case Mike could use them but got no response.
My site had 42,784 hits last month.

You are speaking a language that is music to Anthony's ears. He has told
me that command line is the way to go. That using Image magick studio
which he calls the interface is not updated nearly enough and command
line is much more easy to control.
Shhhh..... I am so LMAO about all of this.
Why? Because way back when. Must of been 2003/2004 before Dave started
his tools and he and sally were stuck on grad circles and how to get the
colors to behave. Sally was talking up "Magic Wand" that this was what
we would be installing on our server. That this was the
path to travel. I posted in PHP group about that and that I had been
reading about command line. I thought the way to go was using the
command line with a PHP format page being your "place" to make the
command line scripts work.
DJ mike wasn't into php yet for imaging. She went on and on about how
that wouldn't work. We went on different paths and didn't collaborate
for a good 4-5 months. I was getting into my PC.
I start looking around and low and behold here is sally doing the
command line in php scripts I cracked up! :))

The only gradients I see on PC now are circles or backgrounds...so it would be interesting to see if imaging catches on on PC. When you make you own there is no problems with copyright, etc. You could probably tile an image with a gradient for different effects. When I was working on the Montage codes I found that if you put in the wrong size for the cells you get an animated image. If it should be 2x2 (2 colums, 2 rows) and you put in 2x1 you get an animation. Might be interesting to animate a portion of a gradtable image.
I remember learning about the glitter stuff in Curly's imaging classes. I could not imagine how they made the glitter but now I know. People are still trying to make glitter though.
And I am not all that far ahead of you on IM. I may have collected all of those scripts but I still have to go to my site and CCP a script if I want to do something in particular. At least I know where to find it and what it does. You'd probably catch up on the PHP stuff pretty quick too as you do know the GD.
That reminds me we got a font viewer that Byron wrote in IMagick which you may be interested in. I will have to go look for those codes. IMagick is something I am not too familiar with. I can read the codes and figure out pretty much what it is doing but not good at writing those..

Wonderful! Really great to hear that. Learning and developing is so much
more fun and way more productive when more than one person is involved.
Looooooooong ago when Mica and I and several others were at the very
beginning of the birth of the glitter frenzy. Every day was
electrifying. We collected crops of animation and took them apart and
made glitter tiles from them. Then we hooked and reeled in ... darn what
was his name?
The Ding bat master capt'n raider was it?
We asked about using dings to glitter fill.
This was right after Kelli came out with the Rainbow line name fill
method.
This all happened on the board of Nicole's group "Gypsy Jewels" which
later was taken over by MsLauraLou when Nicole went full time computer.
From there we took off. The glitter mania was started in webtv land.
This is a fact.
Aya recruited a AOL tute maker and from there the glitter craze spread
to the pc world. The pc's were about a year behind us on webtv. This is
the absolute truth.
The core group was Mica, Myself, Aya, Dan. It started as a email between
Mica and I really. I was starting to build my stars site and I said to
Mica hey you know what there are not enough sparkly glitzy images
around. Lets see if we can find some or heck lets make them! The first
glitter tiles were a crop from a fairy wing.
Yup. Tis true! I can tell you exactly which graphic it is to.
Dan came out with his site first and then Aya then me. I was busy with
the ding bats and capt raider at the same time.
Fun fun fun...

Here is my IMagick directories. The FontViewer file is pretty cool as it takes a URL from anywhere on the web. You need a Temp subdirectory for this script to work. Inside my Temp directory here there are a couple of zips of a lot of the samples if you want to grab them. Don't recall if the font viewer is there though.

Maybe they don't have the site around anymore, if it ws that long ago. I did find this message on a server linked to a German IM site (Mirror)

This is an IMagick script that puts a directory into a montage but you still have to give it the matrix. (2x1) Also only does jpg.
I don't know if there is a way to do a loop, maybe. But if you put a larger number than you have images you will either get blank space or it will stop at the last image.
I can't look at your page yet because I am on my work PC. I will get to it later.

This script will print out the string that you need. Then you can CCP the string and bring it back into the script and click on it again for the image. Needs a Temp subdirectory to work. You can change the number of rows and columns in the script.

I think the one you want is called "Santa Claus and His Old Lady". I'm
almost positive I've heard a real audio on WTV but couldn't find it. It
may have been a few years ago on a Dr. Dimento CD at Sonic that had the
track. It's 6:20 long and the flash I made had to be split. It will
auto go to the second half flash with a small break. . You will be on a
black screen for both parts.
I tried to do it in my sig but it seems WTV doesn't allow the first
flash accessing the url of the second . Remember after the first has
ended it will get the second half on it's own.
These large files will only play about 4-5 times/hour on my free Geo
account. Too much trouble to put them at Pagebuilder. So you may get a
weird Popup if they don't play. Try later. URL below.

Oh, I can hear it fine. Is that another way to get some sounds with webby? I haven't gotten to the sounds with swf yet. The next lesson is on color change which I did upload (not posted). Did not do anything with it. The one after that is more interesting with morphing a shape. That might come in handy..but I have not had a chance to really work with it yet.

Here is my most recent tool for IM loops. It gives you the codes which you CCP into a file. You need a sub called Temp for the codes to work. I have not tested it with webby but I don't see why it would not work.

Hey Byron.
As you see PC can indeed see Grad Tables.
LOL! I have been called a liar when I said they can be seen by a PC.

I Snipped the Grad Table I used for a Grad Heading. Source the Page to
see the CODE.
See the Grad as the PC sees the Table on the attachment.

I have seen css gradients of several types. The one he is using uses a microsoft filter so it is not viewable by all PCs. The codes all seem tedious to me and they don't have the angles that we have with gradtables. The IM gradients can be viewed by PC as they are made into images. Those codes might seem tedious too at first but once you get used to them they are no worse than HTML gradients. The only thing is that you might end up with a directory full of images while you are working on a gradient image of different colors, etc, but you can delete the whole directory and just save the finished product, plus save your code as a txt file for future reference or changes.
